About Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)
Introduction
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, often known as MGNREGA or simply NREGA, is a significant Indian labor law and social security measure. Enacted in 2005, the scheme aims to provide job opportunities and poverty in rural areas across the country.
Key Objectives
MGNREGA has two primary objectives: to enhance livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work, and to create durable assets like roads, water conservation structures, and more, to improve rural infrastructure.
