Medical Standards
Indian Coast Guard Bharti 2023
- To join the Indian Coast Guard, you must meet specific medical requirements.
- You need to be at least 157 cm tall, but there are some height relaxations for candidates from certain regions.
- Your chest should expand by at least 5 cm.
- Your weight should match your height and age within a certain range.
- You should have normal hearing.
- Permanent tattoos on the body are generally not allowed, except for some tribal communities and in specific areas like inner forearms and the back of the hand.
- Eye Sight.
(i) Asst Commandant (GD) 6/6 6/9 – Uncorrected without Glass.
6/6 6/6 – Corrected with Glass.
(iii) Asst Commandant 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other
CPL holders (SSA) correctable to 6/6.

Initial Medicals Examination.

The medical officer may put the candidates as
- Fit/Permanently unfit/Temporarily unfit. The candidates declared Permanently unfit/
- Temporarily unfit have an option to appeal on the finding of the initial medical examination.
- The appeal medical to be completed “within 21 days if permanently unfit” or “within 42 days if
- temporarily unfit” after completion of initial medicals. No further review/appeal is permissible if
- declared unfit/fail in appeal medicals. No other Medical fitness certificate other than that of the
- specialist opinion in a military hospital is admissible during appeal medical
Physical Fitness Test. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk. All
candidates are advised to be in possession of sports rig (Shoe, T-shirt, Trouser etc). The PFT
consists of:-
(aa) 1.6 Km run to be completed in
7 minutes.
(ab) 20 Squat ups (UthakBaithak).
(ac) 10 Push-up.
